The Sad Truth About Disabilities

There are still a lot of people in this world that think just because a person is disabled they're a lesser person. That our capabilities are much more limited than the rest of society. This is not the case. There are a lot of people out there with disabilities that are more capable than lets say a “normal” person. I put normal in quotes to emphasize that fact that there really isn't just one definition for the word. The word normal can mean millions of different things. Everyone has their own distinct definition of it.

It really bothers me when it can be twice as hard for a disabled person to find work. I think that employers see us needing “extra training” and not worth the money to do so. This can seem like a hard truth but it does happen. Some people out there do need daily help and that's why there are services for them. But if someone who happens to be disabled is capable of taking care of themselves than the services for help become very scarce. If there are any in the first place.

A lot of us just want to a part of today's society. Go to school/work, come home to cook a meal, enjoy their nightly activities (going for walks, video games, reading, etc). To me it makes me feel that I'm doing something productive by earning an income and being able to financially support myself. One day I would like that for myself. To wake up and feel like I'm going to do something that day. To purchase something without always being worried in the back of my mind.

Thank you for reading my rant and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
