My thoughts on local transportation

In my opinion the local transportation needs some work. People around here take buses and cabs to work, home, stores, etc. As far as I’m concerned, there will always be a need for public transit. I will be focusing on two methods that I find could use some adjustments. These two methods are buses and taxis.

The local bus system seems easy enough during the day. The operators are very helpful as well. The only problem that I can see is that the busses slow down after 7pm. This makes it more difficult for people coming back from work or anywhere else. This could have people waiting at the bus stop for a lot longer. In the summer it’s not so bad but you still want to get somewhere and not wait too long. During the winter is another story. I have never taken a bus in the winter but I know that I don’t like to wait outside for too long.

I don’t take a taxi very often. One of the major reasons is the price. It cost me about $40 to get across town. Watching that meter go up makes me feel like my life is slowly draining. The way I see it is that its theft. It costs way too much money to get anywhere. The only reason that I took the cab is because the buses were not running.

Disability Scholarships

There are awards out there for people with disabilities. One of the sites I had looked at was DisabilityAwards.ca. This website had numerous awards for students with disabilities in Canada. To search for an award you need to select the province where you live, the province of where the school is located and the name of the school you plan to attend. Then, under that, there is a checkbox list of disabilities. You check off the ones that apply to you and click ‘Search for Awards’. After that a list of awards will show up.

This is only one of the sites out there that offers these scholarships. Use www.google.ca and search for more awards there. I use Google to search for everything. Once you find the sites you need apply for some awards. These will help disabled students financially with their studies.

Mother battles school for daughter's right for walker

Having a disability I am against any discrimination. I have read on article on how a school bans a young girl with Cerebral Palsy (Lakay Roberts) to bring her walker. The head of the special needs department (Gary Lemley) made a statement after seeing her walker collapse in the parking lot. He stated that the walker was unsafe for the other children and it would have to be left at home.

What I don’t understand is if she can’t bring her walker to school how will she move around? Does Mr. Lemley want Lakay to crawl around? In my opinion, I feel that most school boards are in serious need of adjustment when it comes to disabilities. Back when I was in High School I had a lot of grief dealing with some teachers. The fact is that they did not have a lot of information on how to teach someone with a physical or learning disability.

Mrs. Roberts had asked if the other children fall do they take away their shoes. Which I think is a great point. They need their shoes to move about just like Lakay needs her walker. Lemley replies to her question with “No, ma'am, they're not using walkers.” That statement was pro discrimination. It appears to me that the school is not really accepting of disabled children.

Living with a physical disability in today's society

It's not at all easy. In my perspective I see that other people see me as less able to do anything a non-disabled person can do. I have a disability called Cerebral Palsy. I can see myself capable to do a lot of things. What I have discovered is that its not up to the person with the disability to change their views on them. It is up to that person to change their view on society. Having a disability means that we should show others that we are just as capable.

Also, I have recently started to think that I have anxiety. This is because of when in crowds I feel as if everyone is looking at me. This anxiety affects my social life. It is difficult for me to meet new people because I feel as if they won't be as accepting as I hoped. I feel like my tremors stick out like crazy. Tremors are the most distinctive part of my disability. My hands and feet shake constantly. I have to sit on my left hand a lot to keep it from shaking.

I am going to college at the moment and also preparing to go to university. Once there, I would like to take psychology. I think studying human behaviour is very interesting. After that I would lime to try to become an expert in deception. Reading people's emotions though their face and movements. It is all very fascinating and I feel like there are not a lot of people that do it. I've seen the TV series "Lie to Me" and I would like to do something like what Tim Roth (Cal Lightman) does.
Anyways I'm going to bed. TTYL!
